Daryl Hannah was among several protestors arrested in Los Angeles's South Central Urban Garden on Tuesday.
The Kill Bill actress, 45, and about 25 immigrant farmers and their supporters were campaigning to save the 14-acre fruit and vegetable garden from destruction, Reuters reports.
At the time of her arrest on trespassing charges, Hannah was perched 40 feet above the ground in a walnut tree. She had been living in the tree for three weeks and had said she planned to resist arrest by peaceful means.
"I'm very confident this is the morally right thing to do, to take a principled stand in solidarity with the farmers," she told the Associated Press via cell phone. Asked if she was willing to risk arrest, she said, "I'm planning on holding my position."
Los Angeles Sheriff's Department spokesperson Kerri Webb said some protesters chained themselves to picnic tables and concrete barrels to resist eviction from the garden, which the owner of the land, Ralph Horowitz, seeks to replace with a warehouse.
In the past three weeks, folk singer Joan Baez and anti-logging activist Julia "Butterfly" Hill have taken shifts in the walnut tree, and country singer Willie Nelson also dropped by – but none were in the garden like Hannah when police showed up without notice at daybreak.
--A walnut tree? That's too easy...

Jewel has apparently gone from clean-living songbird to Robitussin-swilling lush.
The singer, 32, reveals she recently started hitting the happy juice - and is loving every minute of her drunken bliss. "I didn't start drinking until I was 30," Jewel tells Blender.
"I grew up singing for alcoholics, and it never really seemed like alcohol fixed anything. I was afraid that it would get me. Around 30, I kind of realized that alcohol really does solve all your problems. Whoever said drinking doesn't help lied. You live and you learn."

Pop star Pink is refusing to add her husband's name to her 21-strong tattoo collection - even though he already has several of her.
The singer, who married motocross champion Carey Hart in Costa Rica in January, already boasts an extensive array of body art including a help button, a guardian angel on her shoulder and a bar code on the back of her neck.
But despite her obsession for tattoos, Pink insists monikers don't fit into her agenda. The 26-year-old says, "He's (Hart) got my name all over him. He's just insane. I don't do names."

Good thing Haylie Duff got plenty of practice playing stuck-up Summer in "Napoleon Dynamite" — she's going to need it when she makes her Broadway debut in "Hairspray."
Hilary's older sister will play Amber von Tussle, the archenemy of the musical's main character, Tracy Turnblad, the show's producers confirmed Monday (June 12). Haylie joins the production at New York's Neil Simon Theatre starting July 18, for eight performances a week (Tuesday-Sunday, with matinees on Saturday and Sunday). And on opening night, Haylie can expect at least one friendly face in the audience — Hilary, who wrote in her blog, "I can't wait. I will be there ... with bells on."
Starting September 8, Haylie will overlap with "American Idol" runner-up Diana DeGarmo, who will reprise her role as Turnblad's best friend, Penny Pingleton.

NBC News legal correspondent Dan Abrams was put in charge of MSNBC on Monday — and his first move was to take himself off the air there.
It was not immediately clear whether the legal-oriented “The Abrams Report” would continue with a different host or whether it would be replaced by another show. As general manager of the cable channel, Abrams will report directly to NBC News executive Phil Griffin, another MSNBC veteran. The management team replaces Rick Kaplan, who left MSNBC last week.
Abrams, a Duke University graduate with a law degree from Columbia University, began peppering NBC News President Steve Capus with memos about how to improve MSNBC shortly after Capus took over his job about a year ago. “His memos were thoughtful and insightful and provocative,” Capus said. “There was one that was eight pages long. That was the one that made it clear to me that he was serious about an examination of the channel.”
MSNBC has been mired in third place in the ratings behind Fox News Channel and CNN during virtually all of its 10-year history. Recently, pointed political shows such as “Countdown” with Keith Olbermann and “Hardball” with Chris Matthews have made some headway.
Those shows work because they are focused and viewers know what they’re getting every day, Abrams said. “Over the next few months, you will hopefully see the network become a little more exciting, a little more vibrant and a little more irreverent,” Abrams said.

After a long break following his treatment for addiction to sleeping medication and the death of his best friend Proof, Eminem is reloading his career ... on the big screen. The rapper is attached to star in a movie remake of the 1950s TV drama "Have Gun — Will Travel," according to Variety magazine.
The follow-up to his movie debut in 2002's semi-autobiographical "8 Mile" will find Em shedding the music angle and going straight for drama in a contemporary retelling of the story of Paladin, a literate, rugged professional gunfighter for hire. In the original series, which ran on CBS from 1957-1963, Richard Boone played Paladin as a tough guy who hung around a San Francisco hotel waiting for people to respond to the offer on his business card, which read "Have Gun, Will Travel ... wire Paladin, San Francisco."
Variety reports that the show's concept will be updated to contemporary times and feature Eminem playing a bounty hunter, possibly based out of the rapper's hometown of Detroit. The movie is being produced by Interscope/ Shady/ Aftermath Films, with producer credits going to Interscope boss Jimmy Iovine and Eminem's manager, Paul Rosenberg.

At first it seemed like just another guys' night out. But Nick Lachey's hosting duties at the Borgata's Mixx nightclub (after the Tarver vs. Hopkins fight Saturday night) ended with a surprise female addition: Vanessa Minnillo.
Lachey was spotted leaving the Atlantic City hot spot with the MTV veejay – whom he linked up with back in March – at about 4 a.m. Sunday.
Still, most of the night was for the boys. Lachey, who has been romancing stylist Kim Kardashian, walked into Mixx just past 1 a.m. to the Rocky theme song with eight male pals, then kicked back with bottles of beer and a toast. But once Minnillo arrived in the VIP section wearing short shorts and a black top about an hour later, they locked eyes and were "Livin' on a Prayer," pumping their fists together to the Bon Jovi anthem.
A few songs later, the two clasped hands, danced briefly to Madonna's "Like a Prayer" and chatted into each other's ears. Finally, Lachey and Minnillo made their exit – he grinning, and she leading the way to the elevator. No word on what happened once the doors closed.

And Jess is rumored to be moving on as well. Star is reporting that Jessica Simpson and Jared Leto could be HollywoodÂ’s next hot couple.
Jared started out a long night of partying with several male friends at chic NYC nightclub The Plumm on June 6. A source told Star, “He looked so hot! He was slim and looked really fit. Even though he was fairly incognito, the girls immediately noticed him, and he had a flock of models around him right after he walked in.”
But the Chapter 27 star, dressed down in black jeans and a hat for club promoter Yuval Eder’s Rock ‘N Roll night, had another girl on his mind: Jessica Simpson!
Another source told Star that Jared, 34, who was in a “really happy and relaxed mood,” stayed at The Plumm for about an hour, and then, after midnight, headed with friends to nearby lounge Double Seven, where Jessica, 25, was waiting. “Let’s just say Jessica was definitely expecting him!” said the source. Eyewitnesses said Jessica and Jared made no attempt to hide their sexy rendezvous. “Jared went right over to be near Jess, and sat down next to her. They were talking very closely,” said one source.
“Jessica was having a great time. She was dancing and seemed to really be enjoying herself,” said the source. Things got really heated later into the night. “They were draped all over each other. And it’s not like they were trying to hide it – a lot of people inside the lounge saw them openly flirting, and couldn’t believe their eyes. “They looked like they were having a lot of fun together. But they didn’t kiss – that was at least one thing they kept out of public!”

Pregnant pop star Britney Spears has rubbished reports her marriage to Kevin Federline is in trouble, insisting the former dancer is supporting her through her current emotional crisis.
The singer's parenting skills have been questioned several times this year - in February Spears received a visit from the Department Of Children And Family Services (DCFS) after she was photographed driving with her nine-month-old son Sean Preston seated on her lap. In April Sean Preston was briefly admitted to hospital after he fell from a faulty high-chair while in the care of his former nanny, and last month Spears defended herself again after the baby was spotted slumped in the back of her car.
In an interview to be aired on Today on Thursday, Spears tells host Matt Lauer the repeated criticisms of her parenting and persistent attention from the paparazzi have turned her into an "emotional wreck." Spears also uses the interview to deny rumors her 21-month marriage to the aspiring rapper is on the rocks.
She says, "(My marriage is) awesome. He helps me. He has to. I'm (an) emotional wreck right now." Spears insists she doesn't understand why the media appear to want her marriage to fail, saying, "If they are that's sad. I think everybody should be pro-love."

Denise Richards has spoken out for the first time about her relationship with Richie Sambora – and the reports that she betrayed her "best friend," Sambora's estranged wife, Heather Locklear.
"The thing with Heather, that's been hard," she tells Entertainment Tonight in an interview airing Monday night. "You know you can't help who you fall for and that friendship, unfortunately, was done and wasn't salvageable."
Richards, 35, was in Las Vegas Friday night to emcee a performance by the Pussycat Dolls when she spoke with ET. In the interview, she insists that her relationship with Sambora, 46, which began shortly after Locklear filed for divorce from the Bon Jovi guitarist, was "the last thing I was looking for," adding, "it's true when they say things happen when you least expect it."
In terms of her relationship with Locklear, Richards says they were never "best friends" as has been reported. "People have gone on – 'Would you date your best friend('s husband)?' " she says. "You know, she wasn't my best friend. She was a close friend in the last couple of years. I hadn't known her my whole life (like) people (are) portraying this." Still, Richards admits, "(It's) been tough having people think that I'm such a crappy friend."
She also insists that Sambora and Locklear's marriage was over – as was her own union with Charlie Sheen – before she and Sambora got together. "We didn't meddle in marriages and anything like that."
As for her divorce from Sheen, Richards says of her allegations in court documents that he threatened to kill her, "Unfortunately the thing with Charlie and I – that was a court document that became public. I didn't hand it to a tabloid and say, 'Here, print this.' And it's sad, and it's horrible that it's gotten to the point that it's gotten to." Sheen's camp, meanwhile, has noted that the document was filed by her own lawyer and not under seal as other papers had been.
The recent events have changed Richards profoundly, she tells ET: "I was always a people pleaser and I just finally got to the point in my life after having my daughters and going through a really ugly divorce ... I've just gotten to the point where life is so short and I just want to be happy."

Charlie Sheen has found new love as he fights a messy divorce battle with estranged wife Denise Richards. The Two and a Half Men actor, who has reportedly been looking for love on the internet since splitting from Richards at the beginning of 2006, showed off new girlfriend Brooke Wolofsky at the 2006 Butterfly Ball in Los Angeles over the weekend. Sheen's new woman is a 28-year-old real estate investor. The actor's publicist, Stan Rosenfeld, has confirmed his client is dating Wolofsky, adding, "They make a very happy couple."

The family of the late Notorious B.I.G. and the city of Los Angeles are getting a do-over.
A couple of weeks after stating that an attorney representing the slain rapper's relatives had "absolutely deceived" her, a federal judge set a retrial date for the wrongful death lawsuit that Biggie Smalls' family brought against the City of Angels in 2002.
U.S. District Judge Florence-Marie Cooper ordered both sides back in court Oct. 16, warning them to keep the channels of information-sharing open in the meantime. The judge voiced her reluctance to hold a retrial last month after lawyers representing the city presented her with a report indicating that the one of the family's attorneys, Perry Sanders, had lied about information he had in his possession during the first wrongful death trial last summer. Visit for more:
But in her ruling Thursday, Cooper wrote that while she initially took the city's side and believed that Sanders had "misrepresented to the court his surprise and shock at learning about this witness in the middle of trial," she no longer felt that way. She ruled that when Sanders first learned about the informant he was inclined to not believe the statements because there were no corroborative police reports to go along with them.
Brad Gage, another attorney representing Biggie's family, told the Los Angeles Times that Cooper's decision "confirms that the city of Los Angeles intentionally concealed documents about the murder of Christopher Wallace [aka Notorious B.I.G.]." Cooper declared a mistrial in July after Sanders told the court that he had received an anonymous phone call informing him that the LAPD was withholding info about a jailhouse informant who said he knew about some rogue officers' possible involvement in Notorious B.I.G.'s 1997 murder. Cooper ruled that there had been a "deliberate concealment" of evidence and put an end to the trial. She later ordered the city of L.A. to pony up $1.1 million to Biggie's family as a penalty for the purported cover-up and to cover legal fees and other expenses.
The report that the city's lawyers brought to Cooper two weeks ago was drawn up in 2002 by an investigator hired by the family to speak with the same jailhouse informant, who supposedly had talked about Biggie's killing with the former cops whom the LAPD was supposedly covering up for.
Sanders filed papers May 30 defending his claim that the city had withheld evidence and protesting the accusation that he knew about the informant before Judge Cooper declared the mistrial. He also stated that he had already turned over relevant information about the investigator's report to the city's attorneys--who then, in turn, filed a brief Tuesday accusing Biggie's family of going to "odious" and "absurd" lengths to extract more money from their client, Los Angeles.

Ludacris jumped at the chance to narrate empowering new women's basketball documentary The Heart Of The Game to prove once and for all there's more to him than derogatory rap music.
The rapper, real name Chris Bridges, was appalled when he was publicly blasted by talk show host Oprah Winfrey for his misogynistic lyrics, and now aims to show his critics that he has nothing but love for powerful women. Ludacris took the criticism so harshly he's now speaking out about the foundations he has set up to help women's groups.
He explains, "I have a foundation called the Ludacris foundation where I've helped out charities that are geared specifically towards women and I'm doing this documentary because it's dear to my heart." "It's about self-empowerment, self-improvement, self-education and self esteem. I want to help out and, from watching this movie, you will get that there's nothing these young ladies can not accomplish and how powerful they are if they just have that confidence in themselves."
He hopes the film, and more involvement in it will help to give hip-hop's big names a better rap. He adds, "People give hip hop a bad rap. It's the easy cop out. Everybody wants to blame us for everything... By me doing this documentary about empowering women, I can lead by example."

When Esquire asked men who they'd invite from a list of 14 notable women to a dinner party, they chose Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice over such stars as Julia Roberts, Jennifer Aniston and Jessica Simpson.
Rice was followed by Oprah Winfrey and Angelina Jolie in a national survey published in the magazine's July issue. The 29-question survey, conducted by Beta Research Corp., polled 1,083 men aged 25 and older.
Asked which famous man they'd invite to dinner, 37 percent picked "Tonight" host Jay Leno. Bill Clinton placed second, trailed by George Clooney and President Bush.
Men said they most admired former Secretary of State Colin Powell (5.9 percent). Clinton and Bill Gates tied closely behind (5.8 percent) and Bush placed third (5.3 percent).
The president did, however, place first in another category: least admirable man in America. He got 14.8 percent of the vote, while Clinton came in second again at 7.8 percent. According to the survey, most men do not aspire to be "American Idol" winner Taylor Hicks. Eighty-five percent said they'd rather be the CEO of a Fortune 500 company than win the Fox talent contest (15 percent).

The West Virginia filmmaker who chronicled his decline during a steady diet of fast food in the superpopular documentary "Super Size Me," spent 23 days behind bars for another video report and discovered, he said, that inmates are not all bad guys.
Morgan Spurlock checked into the Henrico County Jail in February and left with some shattered stereotypes. "One of them is that you imagine jail, and prison, being filled with all these bad guys," Spurlock told the Richmond Times-Dispatch. "And I'll be the first person to say there's people that are locked up who should be locked up. But at the same time, I think there's a lot of good, honest, genuine people in there who made a mistake ... "
Spurlock's experience will air July 26 on the FX network, launching the second season of his "30 Days" documentary series.

Matt Damon and his wife, Luciana Bozan, have welcomed a baby girl named Isabella.
"The baby is here. Isabella arrived yesterday," Damon's brother Kyle said. The baby weighed in at 7 lbs., 7 oz. This is the first child for the couple. Bozan also has a daughter, Alexia, from a previous marriage.
"He's a terrific uncle and he's going to be a wonderful father," Kyle said of his brother, Matt. "Thankfully, Lucy has some experience, so that will help. Alexia is a terrific girl. They're all really close, they'll be an intimate family." Late last year, Damon said at a press conference that he "longed for" fatherhood. "But I've got to learn how to be a good disciplinarian," he said, "'cause I'm a professional uncle right now."
