Kevin Costner will fulfill a longtime dream in November when he releases his first album with his country-rock band, Modern West.
The actor, who said that his unlikely turn as a lead singer elicited double-takes when the band played a NASCAR event in July, has been playing music with some of his band mates for nearly 20 years.
An early incarnation of the band (once called Roving Boy) stalled when Costner's movie career took off, but in the past few years he's devoted more time to music. "I remember looking out into the crowd, thinking, 'This just feels right,' " Costner, 53, said in a statement about an early performance with Modern West. The album features 12 original songs, including six tunes co-written by Costner. Several tracks will be available to country radio this week and the album will be out Nov. 11.
The band plans to tour later this year and into 2009.

Heather Locklear was arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence Saturday evening in Santa Barbara County, Calif.
"Around 4:30 p.m., a female witness saw Heather Locklear driving erratically while leaving a parking lot in Montecito," California Highway Patrol spokesman Tom Marshall said. "The witness said Locklear was revving her engine loudly, and backed over a pair of sunglasses several times."
Soon after, the witness – who apparently didn't recognize the actress – spotted Locklear, 47, stopped on a nearby highway, exiting her vehicle. "The witness called 911 because she was concerned for Locklear's safety," Marshall said. "When a CHP officer arrived, Locklear was found seated inside her vehicle, which was partially blocking the roadway."
Because Locklear appeared "disoriented and impaired," she was taken to a local CHP station and drug and alcohol tests were administered, Marshall said. The actress was cooperative. "Alcohol was ruled out as a factor, but based on the officer's observations, we believe Locklear was under the influence of prescription medication," Marshall added.
Locklear was arrested on suspicion of DUI and being under the influence of a controlled substance. She booked at a local jail around 7 p.m., and released hours later.

Scarlett Johansson and Ryan Reynolds made it official with a wedding this weekend, Reynolds's rep, Meredith O'Sullivan, confirmed.
Attended by only a handful of close friends and family, the ceremony was held at a remote wilderness retreat outside of Vancouver, B.C. This is the first marriage for both. The couple had announced their engagement in May.
Johansson, 23, began dating Reynolds, 31, last year shortly after his split from singer Alanis Morissette, who recently expressed well wishes on her ex's engagement.

More bad news for Hugh Hefner - his one "loyal" girlfriend, Bridget Marquardt, who's still married to a man in her hometown, may be stepping out on him, too.
Just a day after reports emerged that his other girlfriends weren't paying attention to house rules - Kendra Wilkinson is seeing Philadelphia Eagle Hank Baskett and Holly Madison is said to be hooking up with Criss Angel - word comes that Marquardt also has a man on the side. Our tipster says, "Bridget's been getting quite close with Nick Carpenter, Marisa Tomei's ex-boyfriend. He directed her in a movie recently and apparently they 'hang out' whenever she can escape the mansion."

Getting into the Madison Avenue Advertising Walk of Fame is so easy, even a caveman can do it.
The Geico Caveman and the Serta Sheep advertising icons have been elected to the Walk of Fame in midtown Manhattan after online voting by the American public.
The U.S. Postal Service slogan "We Deliver For You" and the UPS tagline "What can Brown do for you?" also were inducted Monday, the first day of Advertising Week.
The Madison Avenue Advertising Walk of Fame was created by Advertising Week, a weeklong gathering of marketing professionals. Organizers have filled the Walk of Fame with bronze plaques and lamppost banners honoring such past inductees as Tony the Tiger, the Pillsbury Doughboy, the Geico Gecko and Colonel Sanders.

The biggest danger for magician David Blaine when he hangs upside down above New York's Central Park for 60 hours next week? Going blind.
That's the analysis of Dr. Massimo Napolitano of the Hackensack University Medical Center in New Jersey. He is the chief of vascular surgery and is advising Blaine on the stunt.
Napolitano told the Bergen Record for a story Saturday that hanging upside down for a long time increases blood pressure in the head, especially in the eyes. That could lead to blindness.
The doctor doesn't say how long the blindness could last, but he says there's also a risk of swelling and cramps in internal organs. Nevertheless, Napolitano says the stunt could yield valuable data for doctors.

Travis Barker and DJ AM suffered second and third degree burns from Friday's jet crash that killed four people, Dr. Fred Mullins, Medical Director at Georgia's Joseph Still Burn Center, announced at a press conference Sunday morning.
Barker has burns on his torso and lower body and Goldstein has burns on his arm and part of his head, Mullins said. (Mullins would not say the percentage of their bodies that were burned or whether they were conscious. He also did not go into detail about the type of treatment they are currently receiving.)
He said the two did not sustain any other injuries from the crash. “I think these patients are going to make a full recovery,” Mullins said. He added, “Anybody who can survive a plane crash is very lucky.” During the conference, Mullins also read a statement from the families.

Sex and the City fans are going back to high school!
Candace Bushnell, the author of the column that became the hit series and movie, is writing a teen novel about Carrie Bradshaw's adolescence, HarperCollins announced Wednesday.
"I've always been interested in exploring Carrie's teenage years," Bushnell said in a statement. "Carrie in high school did not follow the crowd - she led it. It was there that she began observing and commenting on the social scene."
The novel, part of a two-book deal, is due for global publication in fall 2010. "We are incredibly thrilled," said Alessandra Balzer of HarperCollins' Balzer & Bray imprint. "Teenagers are rabid fans of the Sex and the City book and show. I can't wait to see what happens when Candace turns her sharp eye for social commentary to the other competitive jungle that is high school."

Despite a string of shaky live performances, fans seemed to have embraced Jessica Simpson's transition to country music.
Do You Know has debuted atop Billboard's country chart. The album -- which sold 65,000 copies since coming out last week -- ranked No. 4 on the Billboard Top 200. Simpson's first single, "Come on Over," hit No. 18 on the Hot Country Songs list last month.
Do You Know is Simpson's sixth album. Her previous effort, A Public Affair, debuted at No. 5 on the Billboard 200 chart in 2006 with 101,000 albums sold. 2004's In This Skin was her highest ranking album, reaching No. 2 on the charts.

Lindsay Lohan wanted to stump for Barack Obama, but was turned down with a polite ''thanks, but no thanks,'' the Chicago Sun-Times reports.
The trouble-prone actress offered to host a series of events aimed at younger voters, but the Democratic presidential candidate's camp wasn't interested, the paper says.
Lohan ''is not exactly the kind of high-profile star who would be a positive for us," a top source on the Obama team told the paper.
Can you blame him?

Fidel Castro makes Wilt Chamberlain seem lame. While the NBA legend bragged he'd bedded 20,000 women, the Cuban dictator slept with 35,000, according to an upcoming documentary. "He slept with at least two women a day for more than four decades - one for lunch and one for supper. Sometimes he even ordered one for breakfast," an ex-Castro official named "Ramon" tells filmmaker Ian Halperin. "I don't think he would have stayed on as long as he did if not for all the incredible women he had access to as president." Castro's security would comb Havana beaches each day recruiting the hottest babes.
