Cruise, Get Control

Get ahold of yourself, Tom:

Tom Cruise is ready to take his relationship with Katie Holmes to the next level, pals say.

One source notes that Cruise — who went public with his relationship with the "Batman Begins" cutie after just two weeks and has been publicly swooning over her ever since — is "talking marriage." The A-list star tells friends, "it's happening," and wants to tie the knot with Holmes.

Strangely, however, he can't seem to remember how they met. Sources say that at last week's "Oprah" taping, Cruise hesitated and stammered when the question was posed to him — not once, but twice. Then he went overboard, dropping to his knees to confess his love for Holmes to Oprah before bringing her out for a surprise appearance.

And in other Tom news:

Tom did take some time out of his busy schedule gushing over Katie Holmes to blast Brooke Shields for taking Paxil. The New York Daily News reports that Scientology evangelist Cruise told Access Hollywood that Shields was misguided when she took the anti-depressant to fight postpartum depression after giving birth.

It has been 25 years since Cruise played minor actor to Brooke Shields star in teen romance Endless Love, but the tables have turned, at least according to Cruise. "Here is a woman, and I care about Brooke Shields because I think she is an incredibly talented woman," said Cruise who preaches the Church of Scientology's disapproval of all mind-altering drugs. "You look at, where has her career gone?"

Shields, for her part, is currently starring in the London production of Chicago and has recently released Down Came the Rain, a new book about her battle with depression. Yet, Cruise appears to believe that vitamins may somehow help her career.

"These drugs are dangerous. I have actually helped people come off," Cruise explained. "When you talk about postpartum, you can take people today, women, and what you do is you use vitamins. There is a hormonal thing that is going on, scientifically, you can prove that. But when you talk about emotional, chemical imbalances in people, there is no science behind that. You can use vitamins to help a woman through those things."

1 Tom was goofy, indeed, for that Oprah taping. He looked manic more than in-love, to me. As for marriage plans...well, hasn't she said she's saving it until marriage? I'm just doing the math.

2 Between him and Jenna Elfman it's no wonder people think Scientologists are nuts.

3 Paxil, unhealthy. Believing in the thetans, the spirits of dead alien beings, normal. Maybe he didn't remember how they met because it was arranged by the marketing department at Universal.

4 Wait, are you tryin' to tell me that Katie is a member of the V club?

5 My understanding -- and it's very possible that I'm wrong -- is that Katie Holmes has long been a proponent of "saving" herself. Medieval, treacherous thinking, I say!!!! :-)

6 She must have read way too many harlequin romances as a girl. "Doctor" Cruise is just fucking stupid if he thinks depression can be cured with vitamins and membership in a cult.

8 Katie's a virgin? Didn't she date Chris Klein for 5 years? He must have been a very frusterated guy...

9 Like I said, it's something I read somewhere. I could be wrong, but it's something I read. Five years? Wow. That guy ought to be a monk...just sayin'...

10 I saw the beginning of the Oprah episode and I agree with Kev - he was acting crazy. The stammering was supposedly b/c he was embarrassed to reveal that he called her (probably his people called her people) to arrange a meeting based on his admiration for 'her work.' He was acting really goofy, though.

11 He just seemed a bit too animated to me. But who am I to say? I grow bored (or vice versa) after one-and-a-half dates. But this is not about me.
