Top Restaurants Boycott Snow Crabs

Mario Batali's seafood restaurant Esca, Ashley and Mary-Kate Olsen's favorite restaurant Butter, tourist haunt Tavern on the Green, and thriving Whole Foods Market are among the dozens of Manhattan eateries that have joined the boycott of Canadian snow crabs.

The Humane Society is spearheading the boycott aimed at Canadian government-subsidized seal hunts in Newfoundland. Environmental activist and Humane Society consultant Danny Seo explains, "The reason we are calling for a snow crab boycott is that most seal clubbers are actually snow crabbers, too. Snow crabs are a $3 billion export for Canada, and seal pelts are only about $12 million. We feel we can stop them from clubbing seals because they want to make more money with the crabs."

While selling seal pelts is illegal in the United States, their luxurious coats are used in couture creations by Louis Vuitton, Prada, Versace and Dolce & Gabbana for sale in Europe. "Most people in America think the seal hunt is over, but it's not," Seo said.

1 I think they are insecure about showing their teeth or something ... anyone else notice how they never show their teeth in photos? The blonde is hotter than the red-head, by the way. And yes, I realize both color their hair.
