Cher has been lined up to star in the next Batman movie, it has been claimed. The 62-year-old singer and actress is reported to be in talks to play Catwoman opposite Christian Bale in the third Batman film from British director Christopher Nolan.
The Oscar-winner will join a cast that includes Johnny Depp as The Riddler as she plays the whip-carrying burglar. The character has also been played by Michelle Pfeiffer and Halle Berry.
A studio executive said: "Cher is Nolan's first choice to play Catwoman. He wants to her to portray her like a vamp in her twilight years. "The new Catwoman will be the absolute opposite of Michelle Pfeiffer and Halle Berry's purring creations."
Filming of the new Batman instalment, provisionally entitled The Caped Crusader, is due to begin in Vancouver early next year.

Christina Applegate, who was diagnosed with an early form of breast cancer this month, revealed on ABC's Good Morning America Tuesday that she has undergone a double mastectomy – even though cancer was only detected in one of her breasts.
Privately, she admits, "Sometimes I cry. Sometimes I scream, and I get really angry and I get really into wallowing in self-pity sometimes, and I think itÂ’s all part of healing."
Having watched her mother, Nancy Priddy, battle breast cancer – and then suffer from a recurrence many years later – the Emmy-nominated star of Samantha Who?, 36, told interviewer Robin Roberts that she wasn't taking any chances, especially since she has the breast cancer gene, BRCA1.
"My decision, after looking at all the treatment plans that were possibilities for me, the only one that seemed the most logical and the one that was going to work for me was to have a bilateral mastectomy," said Applegate. "So basically I had a prophylactic double mastectomies."

The third time was certainly not the charm for Phil Collins, who's facing yet another pricey divorce.
After six years of marriage and two children, the musician's former wife, Swiss-born Orianne Cevey, 35, has received a $46.76 million cash payout from Collins, 57, reports Britain's Daily Mirror.
The record settlement – Britain's biggest ever in a celebrity divorce – tops by some $2 million what Paul McCartney gave Heather Mills earlier this year.
Collins is no stranger to expensive breakups. Second wife Jill Tavelman received $34 million after he ended their relationship by fax in 1994. In all, according to a Daily Telegraph tally, Collins's divorces have cost him $84 million – nearly a third of his estimated $280 fortune. Collins and Cevey met on tour in 1994 while she was working as a translator. Their children are Nicolas, 8, and Matthew, 4.
Collins also has three other children: Lily, from his marriage with Tavelman, and Simon and Joelyi, from his first marriage – to Canadian-born Andrea Bertorelli. That union ended in 1979.

Michael Jackson hasn't spoken to his brothers since he was acquitted of child molestation charges three years ago - even though they've been trying to reach him about money he owes them. Sources say Wacko Jacko owes Jermaine, Tito, Marlon and Jackie Jackson $840,000 in royalties from their Jackson 5 hits. Since Michael won't talk to them, and is said to be in a wheelchair, it's unlikely he'll join his siblings on Sept. 4 when they pick up their lifetime achievement salutes at the BMI Urban Awards.

J.R., Bobby, Sue Ellen and other members of the Ewing clan are getting back together for a "Dallas" reunion party.
Cast members of the popular prime-time soap opera that ran from 1978-91 will return to the Southfork Ranch north of Dallas on Nov. 8 to celebrate the 30th anniversary of the show. Several key actors, including Larry Hagman, Linda Gray and Patrick Duffy, have confirmed they will attend.
Hagman, who played central character J.R. Ewing, a scheming oil baron and cattle rancher, said he is looking forward to the event. "I may not be able to do the 40th," said Hagman, 76, in an interview with The Dallas Morning News. "Thirty years is pretty good, and the show is still very popular."
The reunion at the ranch in suburban Parker, north of Dallas, is open to the public. Tickets go on sale Aug. 22 and will cost between $100 and $1,000. The event will include fireworks, a country music concert, a question-and-answer session with the cast and tours of the mansion.

Adrian Grenier and his girlfriend, Transformers 2 star Isabel Lucas, have split on the heels of her car crash while driving with costar Shia LaBeouf, a source said.
The pair broke up about three weeks ago, right after the accident that left LaBeouf with a crushed hand. "It wasn't working out," says a source. "Adrian saw her with Shia and that was kind of it – the crash, their hanging out. He obviously didn't appreciate it."
Lucas, 22, was the passenger in LaBeouf's car. She was treated for minor bumps and bruises at the hospital and released. Lucas's rep confirmed that the actress "is single." According to reports, Lucas had been dating Entourage star Grenier, 32, for several months.

The new film, Edwin A. Salt, will now star Angelina Jolie instead of Tom Cruise.
Once expected to star Tom Cruise, the Columbia Pictures espionage thriller will be redrafted by screenwriter Kurt Wimmer as a star vehicle for Angelina Jolie. Philip Noyce remains attached as director and Lorenzo di Bonaventura and Sunil Perkashare producing.
Jolie is close to a deal to play the title character, a CIA officer whoÂ’s accused by a defector of being a Russian sleeper spy and must elude capture long enough to establish her innocence.
Cruise had long flirted with the project, but that ended recently. The well-regarded script had several male movie stars circling. Jolie took a liking to it, prompting the studioÂ’s decision to rewrite it. Sources said the project wonÂ’t require that much of an overhaul to suit her.

John Mayer may have gone too far when he recently joked about being unfaithful to girlfriend Jennifer Aniston.
Last month, the singer-songwriter admitted to concertgoers that he’s experienced “dream cheating.” Now magazine reports the former “Friend” failed to find the humor in his comments. “One of the things that causes tensions between them at times is the jokes John makes when Jen isn't around,” a source said. “She wasn't happy when he told the audience at his show in California on July 26 that he had a dream he had made out with someone other than her.”
Not to worry. Jen’s sure to forgive John for his nocturnal gallivanting soon. A fan who attended the Mountain View show told E! News the singer tried to make it up to the actress that same night. “(John) had to do his penance to his girlfriend by singing ‘Dreaming with a Broken Heart,’” the audience member said.
