Anti-Paris Brigade

Film veterans Shirley MacLaine, Shirley Temple and Catherine Deneuve have joined the list of stars criticising socialite Paris Hilton, because they believe the hotel heiress does not deserve her film roles.

MacLaine, 71; Deneuve, 61; and former child star Temple, 77, join country singer Gretchen Wilson, Jon Bon Jovi, Sharon Osbourne and designer Valentino, who have all admitted disliking Hilton.

MacLaine scathes, "She just shops and turns up to parties. "So she wears pink and has blonde hair and suddenly calls herself not a starlet or an ingenue - no, according to Paris, she is a movie star. "It irritates me. In my day, you had to really work. It took Bette Davis seven years of hard slog to reach the point where her name was above the title on a movie."

Temple adds, "(Paris) is stealing the thunder from really talented actors who have learned their craft."

Meanwhile, French beauty Deneuve asks, "Who is she but a provocative young Barbie doll?"

1 I'm normally quite a fan of S. MacLaine but this all sounds so CATTY. I don't like Paris but I sure don't think she's stealing any thunder from "real" actors. Sounds like a bunch of bitter, old women.

2 I surely can't argue with what they're saying, but there's no such thing as a "fair" way to get a role. Samuel L. Jackson has recently gone on similar tirades about rappers who land starring roles with nary a shred of acting training. Producers, for one, aren't known for being morally upright and virtuous. Paris may very well be a skank and a media whore and I completely and utterly loathe her, but if she's a dues-paying member of SAG, they really can't say much more. Nevertheless, I think they're spot-on in their characterization of her.

3 Earth to old hags--the industry has changed. They may be right about her lack of talent, but with Hollywood releasing awful movie after awful movie it doesn't matter. It's not like Bette Davis would make "The Dukes of Hazzard" worth watching.

4 She may be old, but she's no hag. I agree with what Kevvy and Chrees wrote. Good movies require talented actors and not "House of Wax" type movies. If you want to watch talented actors....watch the "The Constant Gardner."

5 'scuse me, but Barbie has more class than Paris. To put the word 'movie star' in the same sentence with that icky tart is disgusting to me.
