In a move that will be shocking to about 14 people (most of them under the age of nine), New Line announced that they will not be screening Snakes on a Plane for critics.
Can you believe it? A totally buzz-driven film that is going to make money even if it sucks, not be pre-screened. Stunning news, huh? The best thing about the announcement is that the studio is spinning their decision as a sign of their love for fans, rather than their hatred of critics and everything they stand for. To wit: "Understanding that [fans] would be the driving force behind the film, we decided early on they should be the first to see it."
--I'm sure it has nothing to do with the fact that they're afraid critics will hate the movie.

Five former boyband members have come together to form a new "ultimate boyband" with the hopes of staging a triumphant return to the charts.
The group is being put together for a new TV series, Totally Boyband, which airs on MTV from September 17.
The hopefuls in the as-yet untitled five-piece are Another Level's Dane Bowers, age 26; Jimmy Constable of 911, 34; Steps star Lee Latchford Evans, 31; S Club 7's Bradley McIntosh, 24; and 37-year-old Danny Wood of pioneering boyband New Kids On The Block.
The band, who will be managed by Charlotte Church's mentor Jonathan Shalit, met for the first time at a press conference this morning. All claimed to be excited at the prospect of staging a comeback, although Wood was more realistic about their chances. "If it doesn't work out I can just go home," he said, having admitted that he had "no idea" who his new bandmates were. Cameras will now follow the boys as they write and record their first single, due for release on October 23.

Four Desperate Housewives stars - Teri Hatcher, Eva Longoria, Marcia Cross and Nicollette Sheridan - are reportedly refusing to attend the Emmy ceremony next month , because they weren't nominated for any awards.
The show was nominated for 15 Emmys in 2005, but received only one acting nomination this year - for Alfre Woodard as Best Supporting Actress In A Comedy.
A source close to the actresses tells the Los Angeles Times, "None of them are going. Felicity Huffman may go as a presenter because she won the lead actress Emmy last year and they usually have last year's winner present this year's award. But the rest of them are definitely not going. If you're not nominated, you really don't have a reason to go. It's a lot of prep work to get in shape, all made-up, pick gowns and dressed up to these things. It's exhausting. And if you're not up for an award and it's just going to be embarrassing why go?"

Rumors have been swirling for some time that Star Jones' marriage to Al Reynolds is in trouble. Now it seems that Al is ready to call it quits.
Last week Al Reynolds visited the offices of the divorce law firm Blank Rome LLP in New York's Chrysler building. MediaTakeOut.com spoke exclusively with a building employee who first noticed Star's soon-to-be-ex. According to the witness, "Al walked up to the security desk and signed in to visit [one of the Blank Rome's divorce lawyers] Stanford Lotwin."
Mr. Lotwin is one of the most prominent divorce attorney's in New York. He worked on the high-profile divorces of Howard Stern, Donald Trump, Geraldo Rivera and Diana Ross.
After remaining upstairs for nearly two hours, Al tried to quietly sneak out of the building. But before he could leave, the witness tells MediaTakeOut.com, "I walked up to him and said 'Al, is that you', and Al ran out of the building - almost knocking over a pregnant woman."

Former 'N Sync singer Lance Bass has sparked speculation he is homosexual and dating The Amazing Race reality TV star Reichen Lehmkuhl after the pair were spotted partying at gay bars together.
Since the boy band leaped to fame in 1997, his bandmates Justin Timberlake, JC Chasez and Joey Fatone have been romantically linked to a host of female celebrities, but Bass' lovelife has remained low-key. The New York Post newspaper reported last week that Bass and Lehmkuhl - who won the 2003 prize in the Amazing Race with his former lover Chip Arndt - were together at gay bar Atlantic House in Provincetown, Massachusetts.
Kevin Naff, managing editor of leading gay and lesbian newspaper The Washington Blade, tells ABC News, "Perhaps the Post is not outright saying Lance is gay. But by implication, we can all easily connect the dots." Naff says several bloggers on the newspaper's website have spotted Bass at a series of parties in Provincetown, a seaside gay hotspot. He adds, "If privacy is what Lance wants, that's something that's easy to have. But if you're Lance Bass, and you're going to the gayest town on the gayest day of the year and going to gay parties, you have to expect something." Bass' spokeswoman Cindy Owen and Lehmkuhl's spokeswoman Mara Santino have refused to comment on the Post reports.

Christie Brinkley's hubby promised his 19-year-old secret lover that he would dump his supermodel wife for her, sources told The Post.
Architect Peter Cook, 47, plied Diana Bianchi with a car, promises to boost her singing career and bundles of cash so she could move out of her parents' home in Long Island, N.Y., and further "into his web," the woman's lawyer said Sunday.
Cook would bizarrely leave wads of cash stashed in random spots around Southampton, Long Island, — sometimes hidden under rocks — for Bianchi to find after he told her where they were via e-mail, sources said. "She was a victim of this guy who preyed on her naivete, her immaturity, the fact that she's 19," said Bianchi's lawyer, Joseph Tacopina. "There's just so many things wrong with what this guy did." The lawyer said Cook openly talked to Bianchi "about wanting to leave" Brinkley.
Now, Cook will likely get his wish — but as the result of an expected divorce battle.
The Post has learned stunning new details of what led Brinkley last week to reveal that she was pulling the plug on her decade-old marriage. Sources said Brinkley got wise to Cook's relationship with the much-younger woman after she was told about it by Bianchi's stepfather, Brian Platt. Platt approached her at Southampton High School's graduation, where she was speaking, to drop the bombshell.
Soon afterward, the disbelieving Brinkley had a second meeting with Platt, a Southampton Village police officer, about his allegations. She also met with village police officials at the police station, although it was not immediately clear exactly what they discussed, sources said. The "Uptown Girl" then confirmed the allegations by having a computer expert check Cook's computer, where salacious e-mails between him and Bianchi were found, sources said.
An aspiring singer and Southampton HS graduate, Bianchi first caught Cook's eye last summer while she was working in a toy store on tony Jobs Lane, where he was shopping for his and Brinkley's two young kids, a source said. He continued dropping by the shop over the summer, and then, when she was expected to be laid off because the store was to close for the season, he offered the petite, shapely woman a job at his architectural firm. She accepted, becoming his assistant, and a romantic relationship blossomed, sources said. While he wooed her with gifts, Cook whimpered to Bianchi that he wished they were the same age, sources said.
Another man whom Bianchi had been dating at the time grew suspicious about their relationship. And Bianchi's stepfather, Platt, also found out about their affair, and confronted Cook, telling him it was inappropriate and should end, sources said.
Cook agreed, and Bianchi left his firm. Bianchi then moved to Brooklyn, N.Y., to live with her sister Danielle. But Cook couldn't stay away. The architect continued to contact Bianchi, at least once going to Bensonhurst to leave a note on her car — a Nissan Maxima that he helped her buy, sources said. The duo then rekindled their romance, according to sources.
Bianchi's sister told their stepdad what was going on, and Platt then again confronted Cook, sources said. Tacopina said Bianchi's family retained him partly because she could be a witness in Brinkley's and Cook's expected "bitter" divorce over $60 million-plus in property — and also because of potential legal action that they may take against Cook for his conduct toward Bianchi.

Home Alone star Macaulay Culkin and his girlfriend, That 70s Show actress Mila Kunis, narrowly escaped from Israel after their vacation was ruined by rocket fire from Lebanon.
The couple were enjoying a relaxing holiday when rocket fire hit the Israeli town of Haifa, where the couple was staying. Culkin insisted the pair immediately leave the country, but Kunis was reluctant to end her holiday early, telling the Jerusalem Post, "He's a drama queen."
The couple eventually decided to return to the US and Culkin told a flight attendant on their plane that wasn't the only problem the couple encountered on the trip. He said, "We went to the beach, and there were tons of jellyfish - so we figured that even the sea was dangerous."

Paris Hilton insists she is carrying on the legacy of legendary blondes like Marilyn Monroe and Diana, Princess of Wales and has declared herself this decade's "iconic blonde."
The hotel heiress is annoyed that people mistake her for a dumb blonde, and claims she is really a savvy businesswoman. She tells British newspaper The Sunday Times, "There's nobody in the world like me. I think every decade has an iconic blonde -- like Marilyn Monroe or Princess Diana -- and right now, I'm that icon.
"I read these stories about me starting fights and saying stupid stuff. I've become a cartoon. "Nobody seems to get that how I am on 'The Simple Life' is a character. I even know what a Wal-Mart is. "I play dumb like Jessica Simpson plays dumb. But we know exactly what we're doing. We're smart blondes."

Pamela Anderson and her beau, Kid Rock, are getting married, a source close to the Baywatch star confirmed.
"I'm finally getting remarried...it's been a whirlwind...spontaneous but well thought through," says the actress on her Web site.
Though she does not name Kid Rock in the note, which was posted Tuesday, the source said that the couple plan to tie the knot on July 29, on a yacht near Saint-Tropez, where they recently celebrated Anderson's 39th birthday.
"I've raised my kids alone in hope of a miracle," Anderson writes. "Well my miracle came and went. And came back and came back because he knew that I'd wake up one day and realize that I was waiting for nothing. I'm moving on ... I feel like I'm finally free ... I'm in love. I'm happy."
Anderson was previously married to drummer Tommy Lee, with whom she has two sons, Dylan, 8, and Brandon, 10.

Robin Williams told IGN Filmfoce that he is still very interested in playing "The Joker" in the "Batman Begins" sequel":
"Oh God, I'd love to do that one."
Williams is famous for his Jack Nicholson impression, but he suspects Nolan would be looking for a new take. "Well, you want to do a different Joker. You know, if they do Arkham Asylum, it would be amazing. Arkham Asylum is one of the greatest, nastiest comic books ever. It's truly, it's like the Marquee de Sade on that level, and wonderfully damaged and quite tragic, in terms of when you realize [what happened to] create these characters..."
Williams was asked whether he saw The Joker as more over-the-top or dark.
"You can go both," Williams said. "As in madness, there's a lot of ways to go. I think you can really explore how bright and how nasty-funny he is, just like I guess what Kevin [Spacey] did with Lex Luthor, made him really funny, but yet still damaged... As evil is, accessible and yet still horrific. Jump back and forth all the time. I'm kidding... Kidding!"
On the second kidding, Williams gave the interviewer a soft poke in the throat with two fingers.
"See there it is," says Williams. "I saw your eyes go f**k off!"

Michelle Pfeiffer has joined the cast of the forthcoming big screen version of Hairspray as villain Velma Von Tussel.
The star joins John Travolta, Queen Latifah, Amanda Bynes and newcomer Nikki Blonsky, who'll play Tracy Turnblad. Pfeiffer will play the former Miss Baltimore Crabs beauty queen-turned-bitter Baltimore, Maryland TV station owner in the film based on the hit Broadway, New York City play.
Marc Shaiman and Scott Wittman are writing new songs for their Tony-Award-winning score, including a new tune for Pfeiffer. She last sang in the film The Fabulous Baker Boys, which earned her a Best Actress Academy Award nomination. Plans to shoot the film in Baltimore have been scrapped - it will now be shot entirely in Toronto, Canada starting in September.
Director Adam Shankman says, "Not only do we have her singing, which she hasn't done in a long time, but she's been a delicious villain in roles like Catwoman. Velma is this amazing mess of contradictions. I'm going to dress and wig Michelle to death on this one!"
--Thanks for the tip, Chuck.

Police and firefighters who risked their lives at the World Trade Center site will attend private screenings of Oliver StoneÂ’s new Sept. 11 movie, but one police union warns the experience could be too traumatic for the rescuers.
Stone’s movie, called “World Trade Center,” stars Nicolas Cage as one of two Port Authority of New York and New Jersey police officers who survived the towers’ collapse and were rescued from the trade center’s rubble after 22 hours. It opens nationwide August 9.
Police and firefighters have been invited to free, private screenings at area multiplexes this week, the New York Post reported Sunday.
“Emotionally, it’s important that these men and women have the opportunity to see the film first, though only if they feel comfortable,” said Michael Shamberg, the film’s co-producer. But the union representing Port Authority of New York and New Jersey police officers wants ground zero rescue workers to be aware that watching the movie could cause post-traumatic stress disorder. Symptoms of the condition include depression, mood swings and panic attacks.
