Chris Says, "Thanks, But No Thanks"

Chris Daughtry has declined an offer to become the lead singer for the multiplatinum rock band Fuel, he said.
"I'm going to be doing my own thing," Daughtry, a 26-year-old from McLeansville, N.C., told The Charlotte Observer on Saturday.
The band had offered Daughtry the job only hours after his elimination from the FOX show last month. Bass player Jeff Abercrombie and guitarist Carl Bell told the TV show Extra that Daughtry was invited to replace singer Brett Scallions, who quit in February.
Daughtry said he expects to announce his next career move in a few months, most likely after this summer's American Idol concert tour ends.

I respectfully disagree. As an artist, I'm sure he would have had no creative control, no writing opportunities, etc. Essentially just a puppet fronting a band, and while he'd get to perform for crowds, he'd likely see much less money than you might think ... performance royalties and that's about it. He'll make more on his own by releasing one CD (he's no Justin Guarini, folks) with his Idol fanbase alone than the revenue he'd have to share with a band like Fuel that is hardly going to sell out large venues, with or without Chris Daughtry. Ever see the movie Rock Star? Not that it was true by any means, but unfortunately, some of these bands do work that way ...

Not to mention what the effect of his existing AI contract would have had on any deal he tried to sign before it was over. Not to mention he would have, probably, been locked in to whatever deal Fuel had already signed with their record company as the band is still in existence (and still under an existing contract) he's just a new player.
Sounds like a damn smart move to me.
