Depp To Do "Sweeney"

Johnny Depp is reportedly teaming up with Tim Burton again for an adaptation of Sweeney Todd.

The pair have worked together five times - most recently on Charlie and the Chocolate Factory and The Corpse Bride. Depp would play the lead role reports MovieMusicals.net. The musical first premiered on Broadway in 1979.

1 Is it a musical adaptation? There is a straight play version of it. I just can't see Depp singing his way through one of Sondheim's most demanding scores. And I think Burton does have the macabre touch needed, I think he may make it too dark. I thought Rob Marshall was going to do after he was done with Memoirs of a Geisha. Sigh.
