spent 8.6 hours a day sleeping last year, only 3.7 hours working and had 5.1 leisure hours -- half of which was spent watching television, a survey showed Tuesday.
--I'm sorry, but who the hell are these people? I haven't gotten 8 hours of sleep since 7th grade. Yes, I know the study says "average," but I have a hard time buying the stat that the "average" American only worked 3.7 hours.

I'd comment, but I have to go take my mid morning nap....don't want to skew the numbers for next year.

I must have been working for all the wrong companies, I always had account for every minute of my worktime every week. Or I had bosses constantly over my shoulder, where the hell does 3.7 come from.

Are you telling me I've only been getting half of the sleep I deserve since I've been in law school? So unfair.

I'm with you, Lawren - - who are these people?
I work long hours
Sleep few hours
Shove play time in where I can

I think the 3.7 hours comes from who they talked to. Participants were age 15 and up.
So sorry to hear you are all sleep deprived. I gave up (for the most part) putting in 60 work works years ago. But I also am done with all my degrees (i think) and I am childless.

First, I'd like to kick the person that included the 15-18 year olds in this study.
Then I'd like for them to come stay with me for a week or speak to my sister in law or me about their stats. She's a childless practicing attorney and I'm a single mom of a 5 year old. She sleeps 6 hrs a day while I sleep 5 hrs a day.
Notice the shrill cranky tone in my writing voice, ITS LACK OF SLEEP!

I'm in law school (still) and I get about 9 hours of sleep every night.

Wow, if I get 5 hours of sleep a night I consider it a good night. 6 is nice and 7 hours would be a godsend (or I'm hungover)!

The study also included retirees. WTF? Isn't ALL their time LEISURE?! What a way to skew the data.

I work hard like the next mofo, but I also like to have at least six or seven hour of sleep (at minimum) nightly.
I've always avoided that "too busy" syndrome. Again, not to suggest I don't work hard. I just don't like going through life in a sweat.
