Prior's Request to Indiana Sheriff

Just a week before his death, Richard Pryor and his wife sent a letter to an Indiana county sheriff expressing outrage about an animal cruelty case.

They sent the letter after learning that a St. Joseph County police officer, Curt Seufert, was placed on administrative leave last month while state police investigated whether he killed his girlfriend's dog. The Pryors' letter called the reported circumstances shocking.

"We respectfully ask you to not let this be 'swept under the rug,'" read the letter, signed by the groundbreaking comedian and his wife, Jennifer.

Sheriff Frank Canarecci said a police report indicated Seufert and his girlfriend, Jennifer L. Radican, 27, a corporal with the South Bend Police Department, had argued on Nov. 25. The next day, Radican returned home to find one of her two dogs dead in the basement.

1 Personally, if I were King of the World, the punishment for something like that would *have* to include the following (in addition to any jail time, etc.): Out of sight of the guilty party, one die is tossed. The number thrown is the number of bullets loaded into a six-shooter. Once loaded, the guilty party is brought in and he gets to play one spin of Russian Roullette with aforementioned gun... 2 I would never condone killing a defenseless dog, but I am familiar with this story and the dog that was killed was an Akita. Anyone who knows dogs knows that Akita's often turn on their owners, and are probably the single most aggressive breed (yes, more than the American Terrier or Pit Bull, which have generally gotten a bad rap). I am not saying that this particular dog got aggressive, but I have known at least two people bitten by their own Aktas, much less their girlfriends, and had to put the dogs down. In this case we may need more info regarding the dogs demeanor before we condemn this deputy. Just sayin'
