Don't mess with Texas? Please. Don't mess with Indiana:

Indiana second only to New York in the number of gun permits per 1,000 adult residents.

1 One reason why Indiana is a low crime state. Thugs don't like it when their intended victims shoot back!

2 I'm amazed at how easy it was to get one. In Marion county it's as easy as filling out an application. In Hamilton county you have to have a meeting with the either the sheriff or the chief of police, but still very easy, and it only cost $25.

3 Yeeeeeeeeeee Haw! There are actually some studies out there linking gun ownership and low homicide rates. Of course, anyone can make up statistics. But, I think you all would agree that countries with high gun ownership per capita have low homicide rates. For example, Sweden and Switzerland. I could name more. It's up to you to decide if the link is based on gun ownership or something else.

4 Does Indiana require permits for rifles and shotguns, also? Maine, for example, may not be high in the number of gun permits but they don't require permits to own most guns.

5 Geoffrey, you don't need a permit to purchase any pistol, rifle, or shotgun in Indiana. You fill out a background check form when perchasing any weapon. What you need the license for is to have the pistol outside of your home or residence i.e. if you want to carry it on your person or have it in your vehicle. I don't believe you need any kind of license for transporting a shotgun or rifle, especially in a hunting season, but I am not 100% positive as I don't hunt. I hope that helps you out.
